Gene Vincent, rock and roll hero: born February 11 1935; died October 12 1971.

I would love to hear Pigpen sing Be-Bop-a-Lula.

did you ever hear the Jeff Beck album (came out some 10 yrs. ago) on which he paid tribute to Gene Vincent's guitarist Cliff Gallup?

Beck didn't do one song on the lp, my favorite of the Gallup-Vincent numbers, "Gonna Back Up Baby" - gig that tone Cliff gets on that one.

Me, too. But, uh, Rob, uh, Pig Pen is dead and so will be unavailable to honor your request.

What? You mean you don't have a recording hidden away in your secret stash?

Damn.

No. But I do have the video of Pig singing the National Anthem
before a San Francisco Giants home game.

I think Gene Vincent would have loved to sing 'Sweet Gene Vincent'. And I sure would have liked to see that. However I did see Ian and the Blockheads perform this at Loughborough University the same day that I bought 'New Boots and Panties' (please note quotation marks).

Time for a youtube link, snori?

Yeah - thought so:

Also featuring the legendary Wilko Johnson.

Thanks for that Rob - a lovely way to end the week. You noticed the version below with Mick Jones, right ?
I've just spent the day with the boys in Uniondale (1st Nov.79), and Oakland (10th oct.76).
Bowing out for a week now, I'm off to Snowdonia, praying for better weather, and carrying a copy of the Garcia Shoreline DVD which arrived this morning.
Cheers,
Rob.
